Facts Vs Beliefs

In our life spans we come across a lot of facts people tell us, theories that they explain and beliefs we feed our minds. But in this jumbled and raw process, we forget to, or I should rather say, we don't feel the need to differentiate between FACTS AND BELIEFS.

For now it might seem lame to even discuss about this subject, but this is a part of our mindset which takes a small place in our brains and rules our lives! It affects our decision making skills as well as our perception toward different aspects of our lives. So here's my theory about these two terms which are often confused by everyone.

It takes a lot of research and observations for scientists or philosophers to bring out a FACT for people. So in this case, we have the reasons, evidences and studies to conclude that what we think about that matter, is a fact. Proven. Universally accepted.

But what's a belief ? It's simply a truth we make for ourselves which doesn't always have a logical explanation. But human brain is not so illogical so it automatically generates possible relevant reasons to justify that belief. But those reasons and explanations are only confined to ourselves and not applicable to the rest of the world.

For an example, we believe that earth has a curved surface because there have been several theories and experiments which make sense and boil down to this conclusion. So this is termed as a fact as first we have an explanation and then we derive a truth out of it and accept it.

On the other hand, if I say I believe I god, in this scenario, first, I have ACCEPTED that he exists and then my mind makes reasons to justify my belief and to make it sound reasonable. The whole procedure is reversed as compared to the former term.

With this I end my write up for I felt it's important to know the difference between a fact and a belief, it helps us to think in a better way when we face a dilemma and we have to take an action considering both of them. Many pieces of research say that we mostly make a decision considering our beliefs and not logical facts. So be wise enough to choose what to BELIEVE in !
